Press:
Special thanks to Holiday Matinee for taking a chance on us and helping to spread the word.
College radio took a liking to Quiet Games, and we hit some pretty cool milestones. We were the #1 added record on the CMJ Top 200 for the week of December 14th, 2001, and then we rode into the the top 50 at #48 on the charts and hung in there for 3 weeks. We even charted #1 at WUIC Chicago... thanks Chicago!
"Mark my words: before you know it, Pinq will be one of those bands that everybody's talking about. They'll be fawned over by the UK press and find themselves at the center of an ostentatious major label bidding war. Their faces will peer out from the cover of every magazine known to man, and they will inspire insane amounts of bulletin board chatter, as well as extensive debate between members of the indie underground regime. And believe it or not, all of it will be deserved..."
“While a fair amount of Spiritualized’s make-music-to-take-drugs-to-make
music-to ethos runs through Quiet Games for Hot Weather, The Decoration’s
space-ready rock is more shy, more urgent than simple stonerdom would call
for.”
- Kristy Martin, CMJ New Music Report
"On an album filled with quiet sparkles of insight and beauty it is
difficult to isolate the standouts... When the instrumental pieces are gems
in an album of notable vocal-heavy songs, you know that something
extraordinary has been accomplished."
- Mai Le, West Coast Performer
"If the work ethic that obviously went into every facet of [Quiet Games for
Hot Weather] continues, you can expect big things from The Decoration."
- The New Scheme, #5
“Any way you look at it this is creative, well-written indie music that will
give you plenty to feed on.”
- Alex Steininger, In Music We Trust
“...Deep, full cuts that begin with soft tones, and slowly crescendo into
powerful desperate rock firepower.”
- Impact Press, #38
“The Decoration delivers the perfect soundtrack for jaded scensters to gaze
hypnotically upon their tattered black Converse... The album’s strongest
tracks... are destined to become anthems for the tortured, self-loathing
crowd.”
- Claire Caraska, SLAMM
“The Decoration fashions introspective, poignant works that demand your
undivided attention.”
- SF Weekly
“Tim Mitchell and company unfold a vast sonic landscape that effortlessly
flows from one track to another, taking you on a slow journey through
hypnotic guitar drones, monochromatic melodies, and wonderfully inward
lyrics.
“I’m quite thrilled with this album... The pop songs and the post-rock
drones are excellent for a band this young. This band excites me.”
- Delusions of Inadequacy
“[At the 2002 CMJ Festival, The Decoration] produced a wall of sound,
liberally playing with tonal qualities... they pulled of what was given to
them wonderfully, and the crowd was very happy.”
- Grant Moeser, Free Williamsburg
“...an impassioned batch of stately pop songs that celebrate the electric
guitar’s harmonic possibilities. Frontman Tim Mitchell backs his six-string
explorations with modernistic touches... well-suited accoutrements for his
romantic narratives.”
- Richard A. Martin, Pulse Magazine
“The Decoration offer an emo-pop that moves from a lulling slumber into
explosive jams that ache wistfully with an ineffable need to rock.”

"Pinq is clearly capable of doing the straightforward melodic Midwestern emo pop thing, but instead they do something far more interesting, using those emocore tendencies as ballast for their decidedly un-emo ambient wanderings, swirling reverb-heavy walls of guitar drone, and disorienting loops, samples, and gentle feedback.
“The music is amazing.”
- The Bees Knees, #17
