"Recurring Themes"

Portland>>  Portland is a good place, and we are excited because we will be seeing our old friend Kurt Schlagel. Kurt is on the road with ex-Girl (whom we are opening for) as a sound man, which means we will not only be able to have him do our sound, but we get to hang out with him. We were doubly fortunate, as Tad's friends were allowing us to stay with them, and they were super nice and even had a bar-be-que. We arrive at the club while ex-Girl is finishing up their sound-check, and we giggle as Kurt communicates with the girls in Japanese over the PA. We get a much appreciated sound check and realize how ghetto our first two shows were (wow, a real rock club). The crowd is sparse, although certainly better than our previous two shows, and we play ok... well, I dunno, I guess you can be the judge of that (see mp3's below). ex-Girl is awsome and can only be described as the Power Puff girls on acid. We really enjoy the spontaneity of their show, as members randomly pick up stuffed frogs and wave them at the crowd. The highlight of their set is a kooky but amazing rendition of the 80's one hit wonder hit "Pop Music". The downside is that the normally annoying song is stuck in our collective heads for 3 days. The crowd loves it and gobbles up their merch. We sold some stuff too, which is always nice. Consistent as always, Mike falls asleep in his chair during their set. When we get back to Tad's friends, I run upstairs to claim a bed while the others fart around downstairs... suckers! Three recurring themes have establish themselves at this juncture: 1. Mike will fall asleep in the club every night 2. Bowel movements or lack thereof will be a constant obsession and conversation topic 3. Kurt, being the only single person on tour, has unappreciated and unrelenting pressure to, um, shall we say, have some sort of success with the opposite sex.
