Tour Diary:
"Must Leave Chico"
Chico>> A friend of ours told Kurt and I once not to take a day off on tour, and now I know why. It just kills your momentum and on top of that, you just get so fucking bored. If there is one thing we learned, it was the old Jedi adage: "time leads to boredom, borden leads the drinking...". Anyway, we could have picked a worse place to have a day off, but it didn't seem like it at the time. We played a lot of pool and drank a lot of beer, nothing more to be said here. We must have walked around downtown Chico about a thousand times. The only real highlight was a taqueria that actually had pretty good burritos. The show was a place called Moxie's that is really just a coffee house that serve's beer, and it is really the only place in town where indie-type bands play. The people there are super nice, and although the stage is really small and the PA sucks, it actually sounds really good. We had actually played there before with the Stratford 4 a couple of years back for the "NowherebyNowhere" music festival. I was excited for this show, because we were to play with Northern Magnetic, a great local band featuring the very talented and also very cool ex-San Franciscan, Kelly Bauman. Kelly's band opens, and they are super loud, which makes us feel better, cuz we were worried about being too loud. There are actually a fair number of people there if you count all the kids standing outside that are scared away from the indoors by the $3 cover. We set up and rock... its fun. Kurt even spots an actual fan in the audience singing along to DIY Love Song... awesome! When the show is over, the Northern Magnetic guys are nice enough to give us all of the door money... thanks Kelly! After we load out, its back to the pool hall. As we walk out of Moxies, we see a line around the block to get into a really cheezy looking dance-club/bar ... drink specials! Ahh...yes, I see now perhaps this might not need to be a tour stop again. One thing about Chico, though... the booze is really, really cheap.
So, Chico's not so bad, I think its just that we spent too much time there doing nothing, and we are really anxious to get the hell out of there the next day.
